A: It depends on your travel style. Hotels offer comfort and consistency, while a camper rental provides flexibility, adventure, and the ability to explore the island more freely. Many visitors choose campers for the experience and convenience.

Vehicle Information

Q: What type of vehicles do you offer?
A: Currently, we offer a 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road, fully equipped with a rooftop tent, off-road tires, lift kit, and 4-wheel drive.

Q: What equipment is included with the rental?
A: Our vehicles come with a rooftop tent, pull-out awning, onboard fresh water (for shower), refrigerator, camp stove, foldable table, camp chairs, plates, bowls, cups, mugs, French press, headlamps, pots, pans, silverware, and more.

Q: Is off-roading allowed?
A: Minor off-roading is permitted. Unnecessary or excessive off-roading is not allowed.

Q: How many people can the vehicle accommodate?
A: The rooftop tent comfortably sleeps 2 people, and an additional ground tent can accommodate 2 more people.

Q: Is there a mileage limit?
A: No, we offer unlimited mileage with our rentals.

Q: Where can you legally camp on the Big Island with a camper?
A: There are several legal camping areas across the Big Island, including beach parks, county campgrounds, and private camp locations. Ready Rigs provides a local guidebook with recommended legal camping spots to help you plan your trip.

Q: Can you sleep in a rental car or camper legally in Hawaii?
A: Sleeping in vehicles is restricted in many public areas in Hawaii. However, there are designated camping areas where overnight stays are allowed. We help guide guests toward appropriate and legal camping options.

Booking and Payments

Q: How far in advance should I book?
A: We recommend booking at least 14 days in advance to ensure availability and give you time to plan your trip.

Q: What are your payment terms?
A: We require a 50% payment at the time of booking, with the remaining 50% and a $1,000 deposit due 30 days prior to arrival.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We accept all major credit cards.

Q: Is there a security deposit?
A: Yes, there is a $1,000 refundable security deposit. This hold is initiated the day before your arrival and released within 7 days of departure, provided there are no damages.

Insurance and Safety

Q: Is insurance included?
A: All rentals include a required Adventure Protection Package that supports the commercial protection structure and operational systems associated with the Ready Rigs fleet.

All drivers must:

  • Be 25+

  • Hold a valid driver’s license

  • Be approved prior to vehicle operation

Q: What happens in case of a breakdown or accident?
A: Roadside assistance is available via insurance. In case of an accident or breakdown, please call us immediately before contacting any other services.

Q: What if the vehicle is returned dirty?
A: Please remove all trash before returning the vehicle. There are no additional cleaning fees unless the cleaning required is outrageously excessive.

Q: Are there any age requirements for renters?
A: Yes, renters must be at least 25 years old and have a valid US driver's license.

Additional Services

Q: Do you offer additional equipment for rent?
A: Yes, we offer snorkel gear, bodyboards, and stand-up paddleboards as optional add-ons.

Q: Do you provide recommendations on where to camp and explore?
A: Yes, we provide a comprehensive guidebook with recommendations on where to camp, hike, snorkel, and explore.

Q: Can I bring pets?
A: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in the vehicles.

Q: Is smoking allowed in the vehicle?
A: No, smoking is strictly prohibited in all our vehicles.

Q: What should I do if I return the vehicle late?
A: Late returns will incur an additional day's rental fee unless previously agreed upon.

Q: Can you rent camping gear or tents on the Big Island of Hawaii?
A: Yes. In addition to our fully equipped rigs, we offer camping gear rentals for those who already have a vehicle but want a simple, ready-to-go camping setup.
